Both are equally rare, but hitting for the cycle is slightly more common. There have been 269 ocurrences of players hitting for the cycle, and 232 official no-hitters. The number of no-hitters could be higher if you count those broken up in extra innings and the ones in shortened games (called before the 9th). Prior to 1991 no-hitters ended in extra innings or in shortened games were counted as official no-hitters.

In the National League alone (since 1901) there have been 91 no-hitters, and 95 in the AL.
112 cycles have been hit in the AL, and 117 in the NL during the same time frame.
Cycles are slightly more common, but not a whole lot, when you consider they both average out to about 1 per year.
As a side note, Clemens has never thrown a no-hitter. He has thrown a couple of 1-hit games, but never a no-no. I believe the current active leader is Randy Johnson, with 1 no-hitterand 1 perfect game.

I don't know the real answer but I would think it would be easier to hit fot the cycle because I no hitter gives you no room for mistake and you have to stay 100% focused in on the game but with the cycle you have breaks in between at bats and if you have a bad at bat you can still get another chance so I think there is a lot less pressure to hit for the cycle than it is to get a no hitter.

My main man, Jose Reyes just hit for the cycle! Yeah, go Jose! =D I would think hitting for the cycle is more common then a no-hitter. I believe the Mets have had 18 cycles, and not 1 no-hitter!

In this era in baseball it is definitely to hit for the cycle. 50 players have hit for the cycle since 1990 while only 36 have pitched no-hitters in the same time span.

Wow, I think it is the no-hitter as it seems to average at least one per season, whereas the cycle is hard to do since most players only get 4 or 5 at-bats per game. It would seem to be the other way around, but I think it is the no-hitter.

I have played Division I NCAA Fastpitch softball. From my experiences as a softball player and avid MLB fan, I would say No-hitter. Rarely ever do I hear of someone hitting for a cycle. You have to be damn near invincible to do that. That's 4 at-bats. Single, double, tripple, and home run.

odds work better for hitters to bat for the cycle. no hitters are VERY RARE. Look at Roger Clemmens, the best pticher in the game today has done it only TWICE. BOTH with my boys the Red Sox, thank you.....-:)
