Well let's go examine exactly what censorship is. It is the cutting/editing or restriction of doing something in the future and it is applied by many people. Who exactly does censorship? Well, the FCC does. One can say that people censor themselves and they would more than likely be right. Reason being is by way of TV shows because we tend to practice censorship individually.

One would ask why censorship. Well, lets think why things are censored and is it ever justified? Because of the truth and yes, it is justified when it involves children. We can also take a look at censorship of entertainment vs news/information. Entertainment censorship is to entertain and not inform whereas news/information censorship is suppose to inform you yet make the story biased.

Another way censorship affects people is the idea of self-censorship which is basically the ability to limit oneself. There can however be drawbacks to this being that one might not get all the information they need.

Individuals will also ponder whether or not censorship in the media is related to the indecency debate. Well, only the FCC and chairman Kevin Martin can truly answer that one. We could always ask the question could one form of media be regulated and another not regulated. But then the 1st Amendment to the Constitution which recognizes freedom of speech, press, assembly, and petition would come into play.

Indecency, which is anything offensive to someone can affect a broad audience. In a nut shell, the FCC is not going to do anything about censorship until it happens or until someone brings it to their attention. One major example of this is the parent TV council in Alexandria, VA.

My true impression of censorship in the media is when the government won't let the media relay certain info. This affects us in a limited way because we don't know the info we were never given.....

That question is very grand because it has so many implications of not getting the whole details due to censorship of information such as news, radio and television. Also, people are effected because of the First Amendment being violated because of the ways censorship taking our rights of hearing the truth. I hope this helps you out.

Here's a good example. The media does not show all the good stuff that America has done for the Iraqi people. All the good stuff we've done for their country. They only talk about the American's that have died.
They censor aything good that comes out of there. How do YOU think it affects us?

Of course it does! Look at criminology and serial killers and their responses to the media.... BTK didn't get caught for 30 years because of media censorship.
