I have worked in restaurants for 35 years, and I don't like the rude people either. Someone should give a course on the etiquette of eating out in restaurants. One lesson would definitely be that one should never blame the waitress if they don't like the food (unless she cooked it). What the waitress is responsible for is the quality of service, but even if one hated the service it would not be an excuse to be rude. You can express it by giving a low tip or just ask next time not to have that server. But don't leave a bad tip just because you did not like the food unless the service also was bad. It is not the servers fault if the food was bad. Also, another etiquette of eating out is to keep in mind that servers make less than $3.00 an hour on the average and they rely on their tips to make a living.

I agree some people take a lot of anger out if your a basic worker or lower in a company .This is why so many parent say go to college ! With all the people just HS or GED , USA is in demand for career people .Sorry about the rude people , they sometimes are basic labor workers as well and feel they have a little power to yell .Manner of fact a professional would "normally" ask for a manager and complain or not come back .I worked at #^#$^ store and I swear this lady woke up early Sunday , first customer and yell about Why don't you have this / that it's in the AD ! Every week ! Well , I worked there only weekends & hold three jobs. One being a apt. manager , she came for an apt. ( income monthly set income ).This was a lady that cuzed me out at work and didn't even have a job ? I laughed everytime she came in after that. She didn't cuz me out anymore. The point is try to get back into school .Labor workers get lowest pay and nasty , mean bosses and customers many days .I understand 20 years your probly older , still college is open !

there are rude people everywhere, especially in the service industry. the best thing to say to someone that keeps coming back when they're obviously not happy with their food or service is, "Sir, it's become very clear that you're unhappy with the food and the level of service at this restaurant, so my suggestion would be that you not dine here anymore." I worked with a guy that used to be a restaurant manager and he told me that he used to have to tell people that b/c he was constantly giving them free meals when they complained. you just can't make some people happy, no matter how good the food is and how pleasant a waiter you are.

I've been in that industry for years myself, and the only reason I can think of is that we are the first person that these people have in line of their needless fire. In my current industry, I am quite often the target of people's needless comments about my company, and the disatisfaction with my company. We are the main contach with these people, and often they are really angry with the company as a whole, not the person they take it out on. If only people would realize that we are only doing a job, and that our job often entails dealing with these people. I truely wish that they would take their time to better report their disatisfaction with those that really need to hear it, like corporate, customer service, or other areas of the company like that. Don't feel like you are alone in this. I often struggle wondering myself that if a person is so unhappy with the service that my company provides, then why do they continue to return wanting that service?? I guess it is a love hate love relationship to them. As for my industry goes, well, you can either keep us and be happy with what you have, or you can't do without and miss the news each night. That choice is yours!!

I agree with you. The wait staff is NOT the cook nor the management. When traveling, I look for a crowded restaurant. This tells me that the place is visited by locals and must be good. I try to avoid the chains (applebees, red lobster, benigans, etc.) as they are all alike. Unless a wait person totally ignores me, I will usually leave a good tip. If I need something and cannot find my wait person, I will ask another wait staff member.
If something is REALLY, REALLY bad, then I will ask to see the manager.

I have been at it for a long time and I usually know when I am not on my game and will take respnsibility for it. But when I am on my game, I know not to take peoples critcism personally, because it is not about me and I know it. I f you are a server and you are delivering food that is not cooked correctly or is cold or unappealing, it is your responsibility to make sure it doesn't go to the table that way, even if you have to argue with the Chef or get a manager.I t is your job to make sure the customers experience is a positive one.
Any one who is tampering with someone's food is participating in criminal mischief, at the least, and could be prosecuted, should be fired.

Because these asses like to vent out the abuse on us ....if a man treated his wife the way some have treated me while serving ...she would throw the food at him and make him starve. But the women by far are the worst! My guess metapause..Pms..or they are not getting laid & need to vent...After serving 15 years now & bartending as well I can honestly say I hate the general public....people really need to be schooled on table manners..& learn what the **** 15% is.And that we (server's) don't really have to serve their difficult ***. Right to Refuse Service! that's our only vice sometimes and you can only spit in someone food so many times before it's just not fun anymore.

I never used to get upset by poor service in restraunts until I worked customer service myself. I'm pretty antisocial and if I can work up the enthusiasm to be nice to ppl than the service staff can at least be polite and effecient. I've never gotten hateful with a server but the tip totally refelects their attitude, which it should. If you don't like ppl either get another job or suck it up and act like you do.

I've worked in food service for 5 years, I know what you mean. I've been a dishwasher, server, cashier, and a delivery man, and in all cases people treat you like crap! I like the saying in the the whole 10 yards (movie) "Never disrespect a person the brings you your food." I think that's how it went.

i know where i work some people complain so they can get a discount, are policy is 100% guest satisfaction 100% of the time, and we happily give out these discount so they will come back, and they do and complain and so on. or they don't want to leave a good tip so they are nasty to justify that. i say why bother to go out!!
