I don't know, but perhaps it's because it's such a huge tourist attraction. Over 122,000 people from all over the world visit the Pylon Lookout each year to experience the panoramic views across the harbour from the open-air lookout.

It's so big that by the time its finished being painted, it's time to start at the other end again.
The marine envoronment is very harsh on steel.
