Through amniocentesis, where a needle is inserted into your uterus through your abdomen, used only for medical diagnosis, one can determine the gender of a baby between 16 and 18 weeks gestation. This is more accurate than having an ultrasound.

Many ultrasound clinics ask for you to be at least 19 weeks before you come in to have your 'gender' ultrasound. This is because if it is any earlier, with a boy his penis may still be unnoticeable and be mistaken for a vagina. There are some cases however, where it is possible for an ultrasound tech to determine if the baby is a boy, before that time, and a friend of mine has found out that at 14 weeks along.

Good luck!

If you are talking about from a sonogram then the sex of the fetus is usually detected at the Level II Sonogram which is done at about 20 weeks or so.

If you are having Genetic Testing than some tests can be performed around 10 weeks or so. But those tests carry a risk of miscarriage and are usually only performed if you are at risk of a defect and not to just see what sex the baby is.....

Good Luck to you.

I had mine done at 16 weeks with the first and 15 1/2 with the second. That's what they normally recommend to be sure of the sex but they can tell a little earlier than that.

Typically around 12-16 weeks if it is a good ultrasound, 20 weeks should be pretty easy. The sex is fully formed by 9 weeks.
