My spouse, a naturalized US citizen, earned a masters degree in Statistics from an foreign institution 10 years ago. But does not have any US job experience. Can someone help us out here by suggesting a way to find a suitable job (in short term & long term)? What should be the career path at this time looking at the future prospect in US? Thanks.

I recently started a job as a statistician. The way that I found it was on www.monster.com I would suggest going there. Read up carefully on how to land the job, and how to win in the interview. You should dedicate yourself to finding a job full time when seeking. Right now the job markets are very good--especially for statisticians. If you try, then it is more than likely that you will land a job soon.

Try marketing research positions which are often statistician jobs disguised as marketing. Marketing researchers need lots of statisticians. Try searching: "Discrete Choice Modelling", "Conjoint Analysis", or "HB Choice".

Another option is working for the Census or the NSA if you want to work in Washington DC. I was interviewed by the NSA, and the Census showed significant interest in me, but I wasn't into living in DC.

At any rate, it can be difficult to land a job without experience. One way to get around that type of problem is to search for statistician jobs that are so "out there" that no statistician could really have the experience to be qualified in that specific sub-branch of statistics.

Finally, the last strategy that could be taken is to become an actuary. You would have to take at least the first two actuarial exams. Then you could easily be hired by an insurance company doing their statistical analysis.

Good Luck!!

Your best bet for the short term is to approach a community college to teach introductory statistics. That's assuming he speaks decent english.
