Can you do some tutoring or something like that? Or if you have some webskills, work on webpages or graphics for companies. Better to have something flexible than be stuck in the fast food grind.

Grocery stores are actually a good place to start out, and most of them are better than McDonalds and Buger King. You might start out as a bagger or cart retriever, but a cashier by far is the best part-time position. I did it for a year, and I loved it. You're only 14, they're not beneath you. I'm 18 now, but when I was your age, I looked at every opportunity I could find. It's good that you're starting out now, but make sure your school work always comes first, no matter what your boss wants you to do. And don't forget to get a work permit, I looked it up,too. And you have to be 18 to work at Walmart, Harley16.

Try going to any real restaurant (not mcdonalds) and get an entry level job. it might be running the dishwashing machine at first, but that's a first job for anyone. as long as you do it well and are always on time and don't take time off fort stupid reasons, you'll move up the ladder. Even if you dont want to be in the food industry, your boss will give you a good reference no matter where you go to next.

I worked at Dipper Dan ice cream shoppe when I was 14.You will learn to smile, dip, exchange money, get strength in your arms(the creams are harder than the sherberts),discover the fruit group,i.e bananas, cherries, strawberries, etc, and the best part is actually looking forward to the troops coming back from basic training..they all want {ice cream} first thing off of that bus!! Ignore boss's "small scoop" quota for these guys and gals!

in NY its 14 too but in truth that's just what they say...most places hire from age 16 and the rest 18 and up..trust me on this i've spent hours trying to find about that..see if ur parents, a relative, family friends, friend's relatives, would give you a job outside the books...ur family could give u one legally tho
