I'm English and have many Irish friends/colleagues. I apologise for my fellow English persons bad manners, they were probably jealous that you come from such a beautiful country. Don't let it colour your feelings, you're more than welcome to visit any time you like.

Paula, we like the people of Southern Ireland very much. The mad people in the North who supported years of terrorism, Catholic and protestants - we are not so keen on. Especially, in my case because I've seen what the bombs those cowards planted did to innocent young people. Ballykissangel was immensely popular in England (TV programme) and so are many Irish celebrities - even if Wogan is overpaid and over here. We do find some of your Catholic culture alien and think it's wrong that young women in a time of personal crisis should have to cross the Irish Sea to England for pregnancy termination. The laws and culture associated with contraception in view of HIV is dangerous. But Irish girls, with their Irish lilt from the South are so sexy!

I apologise on behalf of the English people for the rudeness you experienced when you were a guest in our country. Next time, maybe complain to the authorities - it was racist after all. I would suggest a kick where it hurts - but that may make the stereotyping of Irish people worse.

A lot of the English are descended from the Irish anyway. My great great grandfather was Irish,my grandfather and father was Scottish and my mother was English. A lot of people came to England when the potato famine happened in Ireland. So on behalf of the English I apologise that someone was rude to you last time you were here in reality they are probably related to you if you traced your family tree.Don`t let it put you off coming again most of us are ok.

I love the Irish accent and I've got plenty of Irish friends... I have Irish ancestry but am English through and through... I don't have a problem with the Irish at all - just the FAKE Irish "theme" bars that cropped up in the 90s!!!
Sorry to hear you got a rude reception - some people just pick up on accents and immediately become xenophobic!

nah...the English as a rule love the Irish. They are envious of the Irish easy going nature and lack of pretention.

Perhaps the guy who shouted at you went to a school with Irish Nums or Monks or something. That breed are the exception to the rule of the Irish nature.

And plumbers.

The person who shouted rude things at you was an exception to the rule. The irish (southern or northern) are usually treated the same as anyone else.

for my own personal view the Irish are fine no problem... but a lot of them are seen to be not so intelligent, not by me I hasten to add... people are just people...there is good and bad in every race and I too apologise to you for the bigotry of the person who said bad things to you... I was born in the south of the UK and the people who live in the northern most point (Scotland) seem to be the ones with the biggest chip on their shoulder, regarding racial bigotry, I was married to a Scottish girl for 17 years, her family were not too happy about the "English".

I am Scottish & we think of the Irish as our equals, almost like brothers.
But English people seem to have a problem with anyone who isn't English.
I wouldn't worry about it. It is just the way they are.
