how did my PC pick up that virus and most importantly - HOW CAN I GET RID OF IT??

go to google and type in 'searchV removal tools' then find a free tool . its worth installing adaware http://lavasoft.com free spyware prog and spybot.com has a good one. run those once a week. hope that u sort ur problem soon. u can also try symantic or trendmicro.com for and see what they recommend for removal.
