Must assuredly agree. Complex concepts are, well, inherently complex, and unless someone (or society in general) is paying attention to whatever pain that's been caused by ignoring the complex issue (i.e.: global warming, terrorism, the end of fossil fuels, etc.) we (they) tend to focus on what's causing the immediate pain (my job sucks, I'm having a bad day, baby needs-a-changin', what's on TV) We have a very short attention span. I work in advertising, I'm a student of human nature, I have a baby - All of which lead me to believe that we as a society, species, are not the best at thinking things through for the common good.
Not really an answer, but it wasn't really an answerable question.

It seems that way. Some people seem to cling so tightly to their opinions and beliefs that there is no room left in their minds for any other possibilities.

There are 7 billion humans bumping into each other on this planet now (up from a mere 1/2 bil just 50+ years ago). And people wonder why the cost of housing is so high... supply & demand.

Instead of fiddling around with all the spin off issues, maybe we should think about curbing the exponential numbers of humans being born around the world.

disagree,
that is over simplifying everything.
grant that many issues are simply pro vs. con issues and people try to complicate things with shades of grey.
people who choose to percieve things with an us or them attitude are trying to break problems down into digestible bite size pieces for the brain as to easier comprehent the task at hand

No doubt. I see it in politics, churches, business, ethics, it's everywhere.
Drives me nuts. Things are not black and white--only shades of gray.
