I agree, it could be a sport, after all they do play against one another. By that, I mean that marching bands from different schools do play against each other for the best of the best, so maybe it could be a sport too

definite marching band is maximum actually a pastime! The definition of a pastime is "an energetic diversion requiring actual exertion and competition." Marching band matches both those criteria. i turned right into a member of the drumline in my intense college's marching band and that i comprehend it positively calls for actual exertion - wearing 50 pound quads round for hours at a time became more advantageous onerous than something I ever did taking area in softball or volleyball. there have been many analyze done which have shown a marching band participant's coronary heart fee exceeds that of someone in equivalent structure who's taking area in football or basketball. so a strategies because the competition aspect, competition is unarguably area of marching band. even as some marching bands truly carry out at parades and wearing activities, maximum 'sturdy' intense college marching bands compete in some marching band branch. i comprehend our intense college marching band became particularly aggressive, putting seventh in nationals. It required purely as a lot hard work and dedication (if no more advantageous!) as a pastime might want to.

Well, if you were to say a sport I couldn't really answer you. I'm going to be in the marching band next year, so I guess I could get you a real answer then. But now I consider it a physically demanding activity.
(To tell you the truth though, as of right this second I have no idea how hard it will be marching with a trombone!)

no, but in a way it could be. in sport, you use some type of equipment, and there is usually some kind of goal to the game. it's kinda the same with a marching band, but I still don't consider it a sport.

I never really considered it a sport, but more of an artistic kind of thing. I pay more attention to the music than the marching, I guess.

there are a lot of challenging activites out there that are not sports. for example- cross stitch. if we included everything under the "sports" genre then the word will become virtuously meaningless. This clarification does not at all diminish the value of marching band or the social status of its members-

Yes that is a work out
I saw this thing on TV where they had football players switch places with the band and they realized how much work it is to have to know how to march, carry a heavy instrument and remember certain steps and moves
I agree it is a sport

Yes. I was in the marching band, concert band, and Jazz band in school and carried my Alto Saxaphone without a neck strap. Anyone who says it is not try it for 1 year then answer it again. It demands fitness and mental abilities and coordination. Wouldnt trade it for anything in the world.

I woudl say it is a sport because sometimes different bands compete against each other. Its is also difficult to stay in the band formation while playing your instrument, giving it the idea that you need skill to do it, just as in sports.
