Why is it that Americans say y'all and Canadians say eh. Why is it that Canadians don't have an acent and Americans, especially southern Americans have very strong accents? What happened in evelotion that this phenomina happened? Does any body have a correct or next to best answer? I've always wondered this.

Everyone has an Accent ... and canadians do... (hence why they say eh?) or some canadians have almost a french accent. Most northern americans don't say Ya'll... and people in northern wisconsin and minnesota also say eh.... Everywhere you go there is differences in a language from region to region... Langages evolve over time and people who live close together are going to develop things to say that people in other areas won't. If you want really specific reasons you're going to have to go from region to region and ask an anthropologist.

Canada is made up of French people, British people, and Native Americans/Inuits, etc(America=North America). American Southerners grew up in a hot, humid, slow, laid-back environment, and their speech reflects that, whereas New Englanders grew up with the culture of Yale and Harvard, so historically, proper speech was enforced at a very young age. Westerners seem to have a very neutral accent, and Northern Midwesterners have a bit of a Canadian accent(think the Secretary from Ferris Bueller's Day Off). It had nothing to do with evolution, I was born in Massachusetts and lived there for 15 years and now I'm in Florida and I'm starting to get a bit of an accent after only 2 years.

I guess it just had to do with the past influences. Americans wanted to set their language and accents apart from Britain so i would guess that's why our accents are strong. i can't explain the Canadians though =\

Please the accent relates to a region, people living close to mountains always talk differently than people from flat lands.
