Because every single person on this earth has a disease called "stubborness" that is immpossible to cure. People only believe what they want to. They don't think about other options, or keep an open mind. It's either their way, or it's their way.

Admitting that you are/were wrong has to one of the hardest thing for a person to admit to. I'd assume that it's right up there with coming clean about an addiction for some. It's not hard for everyone though.
All some people have is they're reputation, and they see the presentation of an opposite point of view as a direct attack on them.
I personally believe that people, in general, tend to take things too personally, but hey, I could be wrong.
There's also a lot of bias in the world.
In regards to politicians, well, they hire people with that specific purpose in mind, so that they will be re-elected, and collect that nice pay check, and keep their cushy job.

Because truth depends on perspective and the analysis that you profess to want is done by rational argument. Eg. every country views the (disaster, or war, conflict, liberation, subjugation or repression) of Iraq differently, who decides, how else? So: why are you so much more interested in proving your side to be "right" than in getting to the truth?

The main reason is that it takes approximately 100 years before every facet of an issue can be looked at "objectively". Until that 100 years has passed the issue is looked at with human filters. These filters are one aspect of the human condition that unless we can become less "human" are just part of our daily life.

I think you have to reason and behave in this way, or you cant make an educated stand on any issue.
I know where i stand on some issues and i cant be moved, because in my head and heart my understanding is infallible. But in most things i like to know every side and angle, and it pays to be objective, since things can change so fast.

Not everyone, just the left, mostly. Sure a few on the right use the spin cycle, but by far its a Liberal crutch. I think Libs want to be fashionable, and fashion means change. Change means wash. Wash means dry. Dryers all use spin. Right?

This is a very good question. Five essentials that a human needs, not wants, in the mind and physicaly need.
1- Food and water.
2- The need to be aknowledged and important.
3- love and respect
4- The well being of ones self
5- Security
You could have all the money in the world and all the knowledge but it doesn't mean your smart. It is human nature to be on top. Especially men. We constantly battle to be the alpha male. Dale Canrnagie, a well educated man, once said "I use to ingage myself in arguments with my peers. I read the story of the young Abraham Lincoln and learned that he use to insult and humiliate others for his own personal entertainment. I learned of the negative side affects of arguing and realized arguing is futile."
It is of the selfish nature of man kind to argue but I am not condoning it. This is why people argue. Its funny that we watch theis people on television with all their power and we forget that they are human as well. My input, not to be a hypricate because I argue from time to time, on arguing is simple. Two people argue. Every time one cuts of the other ones sentence to input his own thoughts only is stepping on his opposition and causing him to react negatively. This cycle is a visious one and it only causes the other person to fight to justify and explain himself thus continuing the cycle. It usually only ends when one side corners the other one in verbale dispute, be littles the other or it just ends in a fist fight. In the end nothing is ever resolved. This also tighs into negative critisism. Yes I agree, arguing is repugnant, moraly speaking and futile. Its only real purpose is to allow one to vent his anger on another with no regard to the other persons feelings. in other words It's a good way to get punched in the nose.

Unfortunately, from my experience most people are less concerned about proving sides than they are about hearing themselves speak. They don't wish to get to the heart of truth or understanding because they may realize it's not a two edged sword, but a three edged.. Your side, they're side and the truth..

Because people tend to not be open minded to new ideas and ideologies. They lack culture and diversity. We should feel sorry for them they are never going to enhance their minds.
