my pc comes on but nothing is displayed on monitor. I have tried 2 monitors so I dont think thats what it is. I have a new radeon 9550 that has worked very well for the lst 3 mos..I smell burning but can;t tell where it is comeing from. My hard drive has been acting up a little but nothing big. all fans spin up, hooked up to onboard video nothing chaanged , but I did notice that the HD dose not spin up and I can not open disc drives. the burning smell seems to be coming from power supply.

Time for a new PSU (Power Supply Unit). I would suggest at least a 450 Watt unit. They are not that expensive and you can probably replace it yourself - just note what connectors go where and make sure no cables touch a cooling fan.

Few components in a PC will fry enough that you can smell em, but the power supply is definitely one of em.
Being about the cheapest component in the system, I suggest getting a new power supply, and for gods sake, stop powering the unit up until you do replace it lest you damage more components with the defective supply!

your new sound card may be hogging all the power forcing it to overwork trying to support everything else and as a result the thing is slowly dying and the first thing to go offline would be your video card because it commands alot of power usage, next is your hard drive because of the spindle support for disks...
id recommend you replace that video card and the power supply too, but before getting another one determine what power usage the card requires and get a power supply accordingly, otherwise whole computer burn. :)
