An old friend of mine was named Mary Poppen, I don't know her marital status now, so she may still have the name. Every time we went somewhere and met someone I would have to vouch for her that her name really was Mary Poppen. I do say she is an interesting person. It is sad because she got teased alot and she was really very attractive smart and very funny. I think people were just jealous that she had a good sense of her identity and found something to tease her about. As for me, I have seriously considered changing my name, and I am in the process of doing so, but just my last name.I believe you should feel comfortable with your name . Although I must tell you that when you are looking at names, you will always find that there is some jerky person out there that will try and trash you no matter how good your name sounds. So I say if your personal reason for changing your name make you a more productive, giving and loving person, I would do it, and I am.

As a parent, I thought long and hard about the names I gave my children. I made sure that there was no "jokes" or insults just waiting to be sprung on them at school (Well ok, my younger son is Jr - So I didn't have to spend that much time thinking about his name). But like you, I can't understand people that would give their children funny or amusing names. My personal favorite of that genre by the way belonged to a guy I played hockey with about 20 years ago, named Warren Peace. I kid you not.....
As is Italian custom for the oldest male, I am named after my two grandfathers. I love the concept and my name. I wouldn't change a thing...

By all means, tell your friend not to do it. No, there will be no money asked of him or her, but if she lets the baby take his name, think how the baby will feel later not having the same last name as her mother or having a last name of someone she doesn't know. Having his last name gives him more legal rights. She just doesn't want to do that. She has the absolute say in the babies name, but if she agrees in court, they will change the name, no cost to him, no matter what and if she wants the name changed back to hers, she has to have HIM sign permission and then SHE would have to pay! Tell her just say "NO!"

I have changed my birth name through marriage and by my choice. At different times in my life I have been known by different shortened variations of my first name, but I have now "taken back" my full name. I think my name does suit my personality - it is a serious sort of name, but can have many light-hearted variations.
As a previous poster also said, we gave a lot of thought and care to the names we gave our children, probably because I have seen a few cases of poorly chosen names. I have taught a Candy Baggs, a Crystal Ball, and a Harry Butt. These poor kids were tormented everyday about their names. Who knows why people do this to their children - they were probably just not thinking at the time, and were choosing "popular" or "soap opera" names.

I've thought about changing it, yes, but now just use a variation of my real name. For legal purposes, I of course sign with my birth name. :)
I still think about changing it legally, but probably never will.
Yes, I believe that my name does suit my personality. I despise having my name shortened though, and when someone talking to me does this, I always ask them to please use my full name. Yeah, I'm funny that way. :)

No, I would not. It is just a bit much in the way of a nuisance. besides my parents for whatever reasons were proud to give me my name.
I do know of an instance where a child was named Justin Other Stone. Try that one!

It suits me now since I changed it. Rednecks just don't have girly names. Ain't the best name, but better than the name I started with.

you don't have to have a lawyer--just go to the court house for name change papers, they will diect you to your local newspaper, where you have to publish your desire name change, this will cost the most. what it does is notify your creditors, and frees you up legally. If you have any questions ask the person at the courthouse to help you save some bucks.
