i'm having surgery next month,i want to get a tattoo.would there be a health reason as to why i shouldn't?

I can't think of any UNLESS the tattoo is near the incision for your surgery. And if the tattoo is healed by then shouldn't be a problem.

No I cant imagine any reason not to as far as surgery is concerned.
