Like the future and not knowing what's going to happen next. Or things or people different from themselves. Sometimes even not just being able to understand something.

The unknown intrigues me and makes me want to make it a known. I wouldn't say everyone is afraid of the unknown. If I knew what was going to happen next all the time it would make life boring and mundane. I find pleasure (sometimes) in the diversity of people and experiences. Other times I get annoyed with things that arent the way I want them or think they should be.

What I think happens is that we get so used to having a regiment of doing things in our daily life that when something unexpected happens we have panic attacks. We like the feeling of doing the same thing day after day that when something happens that we were not expecting happens such as getting a flat tire we freak out. Then in the back of our minds we remember that flat tire that gave us anxiety and we think what bad thing will happen next. And then when we don’t understand something that others do, I will use setting up a computer as an example we feel stupid or inferior to those who have no problem putting a PC together. In other words we create our own anxiety.

Because when our race ( the HUMAN race ) was young, there were things lurking in the dark that would EAT us. Our emotions arrise from what is called "the reptilian mid-brain," which is the most primative part of the brain. It's where the "fight or flight" impulse comes from. Since the repitilian mid-brian is still there, so are all the emotions it generates. Not knowing gives rise to fear, because that's how we "grew up" as a race. It use to be a survival characteristic, but is now not as important to our survival as when the race was young. This makes another good argument for learning to control your emotions, yes? :)

People are so afraid of the unknown because one of a human beings greatest assets which is their imagination works against them by conjuring up all kinds of thoughts of wickedness and horror. Some horrors and evil are real but some horrors and evil are imagined either way you may require to arm yourself with faith, courage and reason first to realize the differences between real and imagined horrors and evil and second as to how to fight the power.

Fear both real and imagined begets more fear until finally either it will completely destroy what it targets it may even ruin a person's life. However by choosing to replace fear even great fear with only small amounts of faith, reason and courage we may then arm ourselves with another gift . That gift we can claim for ourself is called honor. That person of honor will not think and move the wrong way. He or she may be afraid but refuses to be moved by fear rather moves to act the right way by making good choices, courageous choices. Thoughts, choices and movements without letting fear control us. Can this happen? Will this happen? Each and every time... Fear of real and/or imagined evils can never stand up against faith, courage and reason. In short character rules.... Infinately and completely.

"Fears and fantasies must be replaced by knowledge and respect."
We fear chance. We fear how something may hurt us. If we know about something its "chance" is gone and we are more sure of what it can and cannot do.
Variation: your car is not working properly. Most fear how much it is gong to cost to fix it. Most, except for someone who knows what is wrong with it and realises it is only a minor problem. The more you know the less chance you perceive about something. The less chance there is for something to go wrong.
The most valuable commodity is information. Information brings knowledge. Knowledge brings understanding.

I order to conquer a fear you must be able to walk through, ( and still stand tall after it passes).... The unknown is life..lessons and lessons learned... A rush of adrenaline, a feeling of confidence, another page turned!!

Never close the book!!!

Because we have old bodies but are very much like children within. If you live with love you have no place for fear. I don't mean crazy - careless. You don't let it overwhelm you. We're finite creatures. That's also not too good. But people just like us learned to overcome those things and venture forth. Neat, huh?

Because we are human that's why. Once you figure out your goal in life and begin to work toward it, those fears will go away..

I'm not afraid of anything other than Kryptonite!

And spiders! I don't like not knowing they might jump out on me at any moment!
