I wish to know where I can go online so I can get accurate info on weapons, the way military and law enforcement works, how the political system works,. I basically want to make my story realistic and not have my main character doing the imposable. an Example is one short story where I had the character be knocked on his *** after being shot by a barrette .50 and only have his army ruined. Now that is not realistic sense my person would have been killed. I also want to make sure if I all religion stuff that I make it realistic and not insulting.

You should visit the library at the your local university or college- they will have TONS of academic books. The librarian can help you find what you're looking for, and you can either photocopy relevant passages or get a library card (depending on college policies). If you want info presented in a more simple manner, try reading non-fiction childrens books. These usually offer just the facts, but enough to make you sound educated.

In terms of looking online, I suggest starting with Wikipedia and then using the links provided at the end of each article for more information. The information in the Wikipedia articles is usually (not always) correct, but normally you can piece it together yourself using the related links.
