Think about it. Nobody in today's society is unaware of the dangers of smoking. I am a smoker, I know the risks and I do it anyway. But I never smoked when I was pregnant, and get outraged when I see women that do.
So you know the risks, right? And you know that the goal of being pregnant is to spend nine months creating an entire human being. A human being that ideally will live a long and happy life, right? But you're going to ruin their chances by poisoning your body while their organs and such are being formed.
Sure, lots of women in history have smoked while they were pregnant, and many assumed it was okay when they gave birth to a healthy happy baby. But when that baby fell over dead of a heart attack at age 30, for no apparent reason, does that mother ever realize that it might have been because his heart was formed poorly inside of her while she indulged her own selfish desire to smoke? It could be the same cause if it happened at age 50.
In this day and age you are building a human body that should be expected to live well for more than a hundred years. Why would you consciously choose to limit their ability to live that long?
Women who smoke while they're pregnant are shortsighted and selfish in the extreme. They're only thinking of their own wants, not looking at the overall picture, and it makes me blazingly angry.

Depends on how good the sex was
(old joke)
No. No smoking no drinking no drugs.
Any chemical you put into your body gets into that fetus, and you do not want that. Watch what the heck you are doing, and the early part of the pregnancy is the most important I am afraid.
Lay off the cigarettes for the nine months. Actually for the rest of your life if you can manage it.

smoking during pregnancy is not a good idea but if you do and you can't quit try to cut down alot.try smoking less than half a pack a day. you could also try changing your habits like where you usually smoke or what you usually do while you smoke.

If you really are pregnant, and you really are smoking, call your OB and ask for support. Your options may be limited pharmaceutically due to the preg. but I'm sure they deal w/it all the time.
Picture the baby in your mind, and then every time you take a drag, picture the baby taking it with you. Then picture it's tiny heart racing due to the nicotine rush and it's blood vessels constricting due to the lack of oxygen.
Then think about when he/she is born 2-3 pounds too small. Then think about when he/she goes to kindergarten and is much slower than the rest of the kids intellectually.
Is it worth it? Are you really ready to be a parent? Parenting is all about sacrifice - this is your first test.

Smoking during pregnancy is stupid...If you even consider smoking while you are pregnant you don't deserve to be a parent...

It's a great idea if:
(1) you want to transmit permanent debilitating respiratory diseases to a baby
(2) you have a dream to have cancer
(3) you want to ensure an unsafe living environment
(4) you take pleasure in filling your body with toxins

Stupid idea! I know, I did it with my three..none of them have respiritory problems, small heads, cleft palates, SIDS, low birth weights, or any other issues arising from it, but it was a stupid gamble and one I would not like to take again. Horrible addiction.

It can cause low birth weight, respiratory problems, small head size, cleft pallet, and not to mention, it increases the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome)
