Go to the library and start reading. It is free and it will help you find other hobbies as well. There are tons of books about hobbies and you might find something unusual that nobody else does. I love to do crafts. I make jewelry, cell phone charms, work with polymer clay, I also do bead weaving (amulet bags, beaded purses), cross stitching, knitting, crocheting, mod podge projects, and just about anything else I can get into quickly and easily without a lot of start-up cash! I usually make things for friends and family for Christmas and birthdays.
If you are not the creative type, then joining any kind of volunteer center, they can always use the help!
There are lots of sports you could try as well, there are lots of outdoor recreation teams you could join. Hiking and walking groups are fun to join, and you can really make some good friends that way too!
Every hobby depends on how much time you want to devote and how much cash you want to spend!
good luck....happy hobby hunting!

The best hobby for you depends on what it is you like to do. Do you like to make things? Be active? Help others? Learn things? Collect stuff? Perform? The next question is do you like to work outside or inside? Thinking about these things can help you pick a hobby that's best suited to your interests and preferences.

To get some ideas about what may be a good hobby for you, pick up a list of adult classes offered by your local community college. Many community colleges/YMCAs sponsor adult learning programs that teach arts & crafts, acting, sports/dance, etc. Highlight anything that looks interesting to you. Try out a couple of the classes that seemed most appealing to you.

Also, another idea would be to ask friends about their hobbies and try out whatever they are doing to see if you like it. That way you can try something without buying a lot of materials first. Another way to do this would be to go to demos at local craft stores like Michael's or Joann's, get a 1-day gym pass, or do something like that.

Take anything that may interest you. Do you like working with people, go volunteer your time at a hospital. Do you like working out side, start a garden. If you like working with your hands and want to be inside take up crochet or knitting. If you are interested in historical stuff take up stamp collecting or anything. If you really just want something to do with your spare time, READ! There will be something that will intrigue you.

How about something free that builds self esteem, confidence and character? How about volunteering somewhere? Like...

reading to kids in hospitals

playing cards with an older person

sitting with abused dogs at the animal shelter so they get used to people

Teach an illiterate adult to read

Train a seeing eye dog for the blind

Read aloud books for books on tape for the blind

Deliver groceries for the shut in

Give free lessons in your talent to kids who couldn't otherwise afford them

Do anonymous good deeds in your neighborhood

Be a brownie or cub scout leader

Be a big brother or big sister to a youth

Make sandwiches for the homeless and go pass them out to them

Become a museum docent

Be a volunteer park ranger

Learn sign language and interpret for the deaf

Help with special Olympics

Take a class, anything, if you're really bored.Even if it does'nt sound so interesting, you might get into it if you give it a try. Last year I took up yoga cos I was bored, at first I thought it was silly, but now I really enjoy it.
If theres an adult education centre in your area, maybe you should check out their evening classes, photography, painting, a language etc. its also a great way to make new friends.

You can take up knitting. It's easy to learn, there are many websites out there to teach you or inexpensive learn to knit books at any craft store. It's not very expensive to get the basic tools and some yarn. You can make gifts for your family and friends.
