Yes water is a highly effective ground which lightening needs to get to the earth. Lightening can strike you even through a window when you are in a house and the window is closed. extremely rare though. The water bed is safer, unless it leaks on you. Don't worry the odds of you being hit is like winning the lottery. I bet you win the lottery.

They say don't be in or near water because water is a good conductor of electricity. Unless you have a waterbed outside I think a waterbed is perfectly safe.

Unless you have a special grounded waterbed, you're fine. I don't think they build those models so everyone should be okay. And, technically, absolutely pure uncontaminated water will not conduct electrical current at all. It is the minerals and other things in a body of water that provide the conductivity.

Pure water actually does not conduct electicity. Only water that has dissolved salts in it can but most natuarally occuring water does have dissolved salts in it however; to conduct electicity you also nead a ground(a place for the electricity to continue it's flow). A water bed generally is not grounded due to the liner and because it raised of the floor. So it is usally as safe a place to be as any inside a house. There are always exceptions to any rule though.

i guess it could be, but probably not until the lightning can strike it, because the electricity flows through the water and 'zaps' everything in it, but if the waterbed can't be hit by the lightning, then i doubt it could be dangerous

I have never, ever heard of anybody getting electrocuted in a water bed.

But electricity can travel into your home through the electric socket and hit anything that is connected if it has no surge protector.. this is by chance..

If the water bed is plugged in the electrical socket (to warm the water up) it might be dangerous.

Only if it's where it can be struck by the lighting of the electrical storm.
