Hi Cassie,
it is not worth even looking under logs - only nasty creatures live there, nothing tasty. Grashoppers or locusts are the choice - if the season is right - you can tell if you hear them chirping or see them hopping. i always collect them in a bottle so that they dont jump out, but they won´t survive long this way. That is not your problem, because a leopard gecko (unless it is a small baby) can be fed in quite long intervals. like once-twice a week is no problem at all! three dozen crickets look to me as overfeeding if you have one gecko. if you have more geckoes, you indeed should breed your own crickets, it would be a waste of money to buy so many crickets all the time. unless your geckoes are either quite young or apparently thin, you absolutely neednot worry if you have nothing for it for 1-two weeks, they are not warm blooded, so they dont need food that often like you or me, you need not be afraid if there is a dish with water. or for a start if you buy crickets that are not quite adult, you definitely can let them grow bigger - for the same price you will have more meat in a few days. If they are adult, you let them lay eggs. I have solved similar issues too, so i can gladly give you all advice i can, if you tell me how many geckoes you have, how old /big they are, so that i would figure out what exactly would be best.
I must be off now, it is rather late here ,
bye,
Iva

Giving your gecko wild crickets is a HUGH no-no. Wild insects almost deffinitely have been walking through things like fertilizer, insecticide, antifreeze, oil, etc. All of these things can poison or kill your gecko. Also, wild crickets can carry diseases and parasites that your gecko can contract, causing illness or death. As far as the cost of crickets, if your mother is saying that buying them is causing her to go broke, something is amiss. Depending on the size crickets you're buying for your little guy, they should only cost you about $3-$5 per MONTH. At Petco, large crickets are only 12 cents each, with a PALS card, they're even cheaper. Honestly, though, feeding your pet wild crickets is very irresponsible, and dangerous to your gecko.
As far as a job, in most states, you won't find any actual "jobs" at 13 years old. Child labor laws are very strict in this country. You may want to ask your mom if it's ok for you to try your hand at babysitting, though.
Hope this helps you.

Breeding them is very easy, but takes some work. You can check the BB's on www.kingsnake.com to post a question on how to do it, or find a site with instructions. It may solve your money problem, too. You will undoubtedly produce more crickets than you need, sell the extras to make some extra cash. My son has done it for a few years now, he's almost 15.
