First, you need to find a vet the specializes in "Pocket Pets". They are more knowledgeable with the smaller pets like ferrets, gerbils, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. That type of vet will know exactly what shots it needs and how often it should come in for a check-up. Also, if it hasn't already been "de-scented", when to do that as well.

Hummmmmm, I think most animals get vet checked at the ripe ole age of 6 weeks. Ferrets also need to be checked for canine distemper. I think they also need a rabie shot. I just rescued one from a busy highway. She was injured. Click here: Ferret Shelter News - Ferrets Unlimited Ferret Shelter . The state of WV, didn't have the time. I had to take her to Ohio. She is doing better. Good Luck with your ferret. Animals Rule, People are Cruel!

Yes you need to take them to a vet that knows how to treat them. Oddly enough they are treated very much like dogs. They get rabbies and distemper shots. Some states have it mandatory that they be fixed unless you are a breeder. If you travel out of state with them you have to have a copy of their vacanations and the rabbies tag.
