The Senate just voted down a minimum wage increase,after they just gave themselves a hefty raise.

I thought it was already passed...how do they expect anyone to make a decent life for themselves in this country???!!!

Our government IS vastly overpaid. But a higher minimum wage is not the answer. A higher minimum wage causes a huge increase in the costs for businesses that provide common products and services, which the businesses then pass on to their customers. The types of products and services most affected are exactly those that are most used by the poor. So the poor actually get screwed by a minimum wage increase. The answer is to provide upward mobility for the poor. Most people had a minimum wage job to start with, but most moved on to bigger and better things. We have to find ways to help those who haven't moved on yet to move on.
