Now I only do it for my own car, when one has to remember the registration to write in visitors books.
Telegrams was a game we used to play in the car on long journeys. Some one would call out the three letters of the first vehicle they saw and the funniest three word telegram (voted by the driver) would call out the next one.
My mother and my sister used to have a competition to see who could reach the highest number (in the days when car numbers started at 1). You had to collect the numbers in sequence. I seem to remember that it took much more than a year to get to 999.

Its good. It means that he has a creative mind. Or hes just bored in traffic. I also do it sometimes... with friends, we see who can come up with the most interesting things. Its also good to do it in context with the type of person in the car. Its even more fun when were stoned :) - what can i say it gets boring in South Africa.

I don't do it, but I would imagine that it takes the boredom out of the journey.
