You would have to be more specific for me to give you a definitive answer. In general, there were ceremonial laws that pointed to Jesus and having been fulfilled in Christ are no longer necessary.

If you are talking about moral laws, then that's a different story. While there is such a thing as a "cultural context" for some of the laws, for the most part, any deviation that a church makes in treating the moral laws of the Old Testament as not being still applicable is a sign of the increasing apostasy that was predicted by Jesus and the Holy Spirit through Peter and John and Paul.

Worldly Christian leaders are becoming "wise in their own eyes" as they compromise with the latest societal trends under the guise of trying to be more "inclusive" so that more people can be "saved". But it is God who knows his people and calls them into the body of Christ and builds the church. Compromising only invites "tares" to take up residence with the "wheat".

"Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 13:36-43

well, i can give you one reason why the old testament might be considered 'outdated'. in the times of the old testament, before Christ came, atonement had to be made for the sins of the people, since the messiah had not yet come. atonement was made through living sacrifices of goats, bulls, calves, etc. blood had to be shed in order for the people to be cleansed of their sin. now, when Christ came, and was crucified, the old law (the laws of the old testament) passed away, and we became clean eternally, because of the blood of Christ. Christ was the ultimate living sacrifice for the people. This was possible because He was a perfect being, incapable of sin, and His pure spirit. so, the old testament is there for us to see what it was like before Christ came, and the amount blood required to make us clean in the eyes of God. the old and new testaments can also be referred to as 'the old covenant' and 'the new covenant'. a covenant is a promise,( or an agreement...a contract if you will)and when Christ came God made a new covenant with the people. hence the NEW testament or the NEW covenant.

as such, i do not believe that the christian (not catholic) church is bending the word of God at all.

hope this answers your question! have a great day!

The Old Testament is also the story of Jews. Christians felt that putting a slight spin on things to distance Christianity from Judaism would help with conversions and many questions followers were having (this is why Sabbath was moved from Saturday to Sunday)

It's not the teachings that have been outdated but an understanding of it that was never in place until Jesus explained it.
