No the fact is the "stars" or celebrities are in an industry where the studios and the executive producers are making astronomical figures for each movie. The reason people pay to see a movie is for the "eye candy" the celebrities. If someone puts a nobody Joe Smoe as lead man in an action movie chances are that no ones going to care anything about going to the movies and paying 8 bucks or more to see it. On the other hand if you have a movie regardless of how well the screen play is written the piro techs the background music etc is and you put TOM HANKS,TOM CRUISE,JULIA ROBERTS,MEL GIBSON ETC everyone is going to pack the theaters. The result being lining the pocket of all the executives that basically just put up the money and set back and enjoy the profits. If you look at acting as a profession compared side by side to any other profession doctor, lawyer, etc, sure you would say they don't work all the time they are paid millions for movies that take a few months to film and live the life of Riley between films. So you really have to look at the industry as a whole and judge what their contribution is to the profits gained. Sports celebrities are the same without the athletes there would be no Monday night football,World series,Super bowl, etc.NBA finals for Gods sake.

I think so in a sense that the money they make off of the movies and stuff should go towards something more sensible rather than in someone's pocket. I just think there should be some kind of cap on how much they can net from a movie and although if its a popluar movie we obviously make them rich, its just a little outrageous for some celebrity to ask for $100,000 just to come to do an appearance when our money made them that rich. Know what i'm sayin?

How Much do we all think it is fair for them to make? Let's decide each big name and how much they're worth to watch. Then we'll divide that number by ratings and numbers of attendance at the theaters, and decide exactly how many people may see their movies or t.v. shows per week. You see my meaning? We love and are addicted to celebrity. they are the symptom of hundreds of thousands of drab lives. Just look at how their income has risen in accordance with inflation. It rose much higher, much more quickly. We all give value to the things that mean the most to our lives. What we need to find is a reason to give meaning to things real and tangible, that are close by. Until then, it's just a symptom.

She gets endorsed to show up at clubs and paid 500,000.She was paid almost the same for waiving at an opening of a wine campagne . She is your average looking girl who is wealthy and can afford to buy a lot of makeup to look good 9 if you call that good )

Interesting question. I doubt it. The reasons are legion, and never come to light. Celebity can be a generic term, given the input of these people into any respective society for good or ill.
Quantity isn't the issue. What is done with it? Ever notice when one of these one man concerns bellys up, the damage is usually irrepairable and they don't float up again?

Not really considering what they have to go through every day! They have no privacy, they can't even leave the house without being bothered, and every move or little mistake they make is totally blown out of proportion! You couldn't pay me enough to go through that!

They're all overpaid.
It is a shame that our society rewards "entertainers" with out-of-this-world salaries, while teachers, farmers and child-care workers (the people who actually keep this world of ours running) are paid a wage that is scarcely enough to live on. : (

yeah i think so. i think we put too much emphasis on entertainment that we would pay millions for a person to perform. but then again they should have high skills to be paid that much... like terrance howard, halle berry, leonardo dicaprio, ed norton, angelina jolie... ALL worth the money!
