Think about it. Nobody in today's society is unaware of the dangers of smoking. I am a smoker, I know the risks and I do it anyway. But I never smoked when I was pregnant, and get outraged when I see women that do.
So you know the risks, right? And you know that the goal of being pregnant is to spend nine months creating an entire human being. A human being that ideally will live a long and happy life, right? But you're going to ruin their chances by poisoning your body while their organs and such are being formed.
Sure, lots of women in history have smoked while they were pregnant, and many assumed it was okay when they gave birth to a healthy happy baby. But when that baby fell over dead of a heart attack at age 30, for no apparent reason, does that mother ever realize that it might have been because his heart was formed poorly inside of her while she indulged her own selfish desire to smoke? It could be the same cause if it happened at age 50.
In this day and age you are building a human body that should be expected to live well for more than a hundred years. Why would you consciously choose to limit their ability to live that long?
Women who smoke while they're pregnant are shortsighted and selfish in the extreme. They're only thinking of their own wants, not looking at the overall picture, and it makes me blazingly angry.
I know you were asking for help here, and not a lecture of things you're already aware of, but sometimes having the hard facts in your face can help make the decision to just tough it out. And that's what it will take. YOU have to make up YOUR mind in order to make this happen. Just know that you can't cop out with "I'm not hurting anyone but myself" this time, because the consequences are much farther reaching than that. Your smoking now could reach well into the turn of the NEXT century, and I know this isn't the legacy you want to leave behind.

Talk to your doctor. I'm sure you know that smoking can really effect your child and take some serious tolls. Try all kinds of patches and other things after consulting your doctor. Just think of how much you have given to this child and the love that went into it. My mother smoked while she was pregnant with my sister but when she thought about how much she loved her unborn child and what she wanted for it, she had enough will power to quit. Good luck!

Try to prolong the time between cigarettes. Indulge in other things. It is better that you gain weight, even superfluous weight, than to continue smoking. Eliminate all the things and habits and people you associate with smoking, meaning change your routines. Hold a little Teddy Bear, something that will make you think of your unborn child, to help you. Think of it as postponing smking, postponing five minutes at a time. It is a very addictive habit but these suggestions have worked. Good luck.

Well, I quit the first second I found out I was pregnant. It was not difficult for me at all because I was thinking about my baby. I sure would hate to have caused it harm if I would have kept smoking. Also I got really bad morning sickness and cigarette smoke was horrible. But I quit before I had even gotten morning sickness.

Alice: It really depends on how much you smoke, however, it been documented that quitting can put stress on your baby. Just something to consider. If you can;t quit then just try cutting down.

If you were a non-smoker and you were in a smoke-filled room and the smoke was bothering you, you could get up and leave. Your baby can NOT. He/she is depending on you for everything, and by smoking, you're depriving your baby of oxygen and nutrients. Just remember...your baby can't get up and leave.

SMOKING CAUSES PLACENTAL AGEING
~the placenta gets mature faster and then calcifies white gritty deposits
~the flow of oxygen to the baby is slower thus their growth is down
~there is also a link to developmental delay and ADHDin children associated smoking in pregnancy
~your child gets a nicotene fix when you do and thus will withdraw and be agitated after birth
YOUR CHOICE....................

the key is to change the behaviour that makes you want a smoke. SO...don't go to bars, take a walk don;t buy any, chew gum or just go cold turkey and buy a heavy bag to punch
