ok, i used to do this so i know. u ALWAYS speed up a little while going off a ramp because if you don't you won't make it off the ramp the right way, or you just won't land smoothly. kinda like how it's easier to keep balance while moving than staying still. you would only pull back on the handlebars if you wanna have your front wheel higher than your back wheel (more air "w00t w00t!"). to land properly, stand up on your bike because then the impact won't hurt your butt (may be weird, but definetly true. u wanna do that while going off a curb or something like that too.)

Momementum, and lift (controlled) - build up speed to the extent that you can still control the bike. At this point, if comfortable, you can remain seated. Ah the front wheel approaches the ramp, lift your body off the bike and with the strength in your shoulders and back, lift the bike as high as possible. if you have feet clamps, use your legs as well.

Go fast, pull up when your front wheel comes off the ramp.

Keep the front wheel up but not too high, always land on the rear wheel first.

don't do it. you'll hurt yourself than blame it on the person who advised you. oh, but if it's only a foot tall... i think you should go fast. it makes sense, right?
