Mr. Smithers is definitely gay.....
Lenny and Carl are just ambiguous... they haven't ever given us a real hint as to their orientation... but they do seem to spend lots of time together.

Smithers is gay cause in the episode where they think its the end of the world he says "Mr. Burns I just wanted you to know that I love you"
Lenny and Carl are NOT gay becouse in the comic issue where they take a bus to canada lenny and carl reveal that, like homer they are incredibly fat and have been holding it all inside them and then a car with bikini babes drives next to them and lenny and carl say to each other "Quick! Get it all in before the ladies see us!"

Lenny and Carl are friends. It is hinted that Smithers is gay but there was an episode that came right out and said that one of Marge's sisters were gay. I can't remember which one.

Well they say that Smither's is gay or really close to it. Lenny and Carl aren't gay their just really popular and are pretty much close friends.
