It gets worse... congressional members have increased their wages by over 30k since the last minimum wage increase.
It was legislation set to be doomed from the get-go when they made it so high. They should have just went for like $6.15.
Pretty depressing if you ask me.

Conservatives believe in the free market, and limited government interference. In the ideal, (don't shoot me) there would not be a minimum wage at all-----hourly wages would go with the market. That may sound terrible until you realize that it would also reduce the prices you pay.
Minimum wages were never meant to be living wages. The jobs associated with minimum wages, like working at McDonalds and the like, generally don't go to full time employees, but rather to part time students, trying to get experience.
Single mothers are in a tough spot, no doubt about it. But raising the minimum wage is not going to solve their problems.

As an economist, I can tell you that wage increases don´t affect big business, they affect little businesses (mom and pop shops)... these make up 90+% of the economy in the US. With the way the economy is right now (ups and downs)... any increase right now may put these businesses out of competitive advantage and break them, forcing them to lay off workers... so instead of making less, those single mothers of three will make nothing! Then, we will pay more welfare and need to raise taxes... educate yourselves America.

Why don't you ask - why are there so many single moms? Where is daddy/ Why isn't he taking responsibility for bringing a child into this world? Why isn't this mother going to school to learn new skills so that she could get a higher paying job? People have to take care of themselves and not rely on the government. If you think Congressmen make too much money - why don't you run for office?

It's called minimum wage, not living wage and that mother of three can be thankful now that McD's won't have to raise the price of a burger because they have to pay some rock-head high school kid $7.25.
It causes inflation, no two ways about it. It's also anti-farm, small business, and business upstart, so take your pick of reasons why it's a good thing they didn't.

I am a single mother, and I am not struggling, because I work my butt off, like any single mother should. When you have kids to support, you do it. Get an education, don't worry about minimum wage, that's my approach.

YAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! We did it again, and thereby saved thousands of jobs for such as you claim to give a damn about. If you woke up and realized how many small businesses and their employees, some of whom are EXACTLY the people you try to act concerned about, you'd realize why we stopped it again, and will keep on standing against it as a primary source of stimulating the economy. Go do your homework and THEN come back with some respectable comments or questions. God Bless you.
