You said that you walk some -- You need to set aside at least 30 minutes a day dedicated just to exercise. Wake up early in the morning and get it over with, you'll be amazed how much better it will make you feel all day long. Mix it up too... walk some, lift weights, swim -- any activity is good.
Drink your 8 glasses of water a day. Not only is it good to keep your body hydrated, but it is actually filling in and of itself.
Don't eat out -- cook your 3 meals a day at home. Don't deprive yourself of your food, just make more healthy choices. If you want a snack, have a fruit or vegetable.
It may sound like common sense, but what it's all about is dedication. Make these few small changes your number one priority. Don't ever let yourself 'put it off until tomorrow' 'one day won't hurt'. You are a strong person, and you do have the will power to keep with it.
Don't expect a drastic change overnight... But if you weigh yourself every morning, you'll start to notice what works and what doesn't, and as the lbs start falling off be proud of yourself!
I think it's great that you both want to lose weight. You can keep each other motivated be there for support. This is a big life change that you want to make, so don't be afraid of making it your priority.

There are so many good nutrition books out there. I rather love and recommend Susan Powder's Stop the Insanity! One of the best books Ive ever read as far as how to eat better than dieting and starving. Its going to take awhile. I don't know why so many people insist on loosing weight in just a couple of months. It don't work that way! It takes up to a year for weight loss and permanent change and exercise plan. Try this book and stick with a plan and after a year if it doesn't come off then say it has kicked you but not till then. Good Luck.

Start with a detox program and drink lots of water. Excercise to lose and to increase your metabolism. Get the 8 hours of sleep we all shoul have. Don't skip breakfast. Eliminate sugar. Eat very slowly, chew completely and do not eat even one more bite when full. Pick a vegetarian diet. Start ballroom dancing for fun and exercise that you can do together. Try the swing, the hustle and the salsa so you can go out to the clubs on a date.

I really feel that for most people exercise is the key! Dieting too, but exercise is the main thing. Once you exercise for a week or two it's pretty addictive. Try a PreCor eccilipical machine! Much better than a treadmill. Do it while you watch TV or read!

My current boyfiend was overweight in HS, and after he graduated he got a job doing stock at a chain store. Get a job like that! that way you'll be dependent on getting excercise, and if you feel slacky, your weight wont be the only thing slacking, itll be your rent, too. Noting like being homeless for a little motivation! ^^V

I've heard interesting things about the Shangri-La diet. There's info about it at http://www.calorielab.com/news/2005/09/21/seth-roberts-shangri-la-diet-in-detail/ including a link to the creator's book.

Low carb, high protein, VERY low starch/sugar intake, healthy fruits (not too many), vegetables, high fiber, and exercise.
I don't care who think that low-carb is some fad... its not. Its been around forever, and it works. Plain, simple, and it definitely produces results!!!
