Why does one say "I love you" when it's obvious it isn't true?

my girlfriend seems to do it.

"I love you" is usually misused. People say it when they don't mean it because they don't exactly know what these three words actually mean. They are still searching to find out...Sometimes they say it to make the other person feel good, sometimes to make themselves feel good, sometimes they just say it for the heck of it, sometimes they say it to get what they want, sometimes they say it because they feel they should, sometimes they say it because the other person says it and they don't know what to say back other than with another "I love you"...etc...etc.. But how can we know if they really mean it? You know they mean it when you feel it, when they look deep into your eyes and say it, when it takes them a while to say it, when they stutter saying it, when they don't see anyone else but you when they say it, when you are their whole world, when they are happy when you are happy, when they are sad when you are sad, when they miss a minute without you...etc..etc..

There are lots of motives to do this. To gain something in return, to get someone to shut up, to make themselves feel better if the sentiment is returned. Ask her why.

i guess it is because they dont know the meaning of the word or they may be confused and if your grilfriend seems to do that why dont you have a seriouse talk

hmm maybe because they dont want to hurt the feelings of the other person....even though that hurts them more in the long run

then u need to find someone who actually means what they say not just say it because u said it and she has to respond to the question
