the line is considered in fair territory in baseball (a ball that hits the line is in play), and the foul pole is an extension of the line.

Because any ball that flies past them are foul. If it hits the pole, the ball is a dinger. Left of the left field pole is foul, right of the right field pole is pole. It is simple. If the ball is still in fair territory when it passes either pole, it's a hum dinger as well.

it is called the foul pole because it is the last fair thing in fair territory. It is fair because it is more exciting if it hits the foul pole to call it a homer then a foul ball.

If a ball hits the foul pole, it is fair. If the ball is outside the foul pole, it is in foul territory.

More balls hit down the line tend to go foul, therefore the pole judges more foul balls than fair. Its like a stoplight. It is called a 'stoplight' because people see more of it when it is red, even though the red to green ratio should be the same.

It's just an extension of the foul line. When a ball hits the foul line it's fair so that's that.

If it is on the foul side of the pole and does not hit it, it is a foul ball.

its in fair territory because if it wasn't then the dingers off the pole would be automatically fowl, and its more fun to watch it bounce off and take it to chance weather it goes in our out.
