I HATE my job. I am in a call centre, selling Home Insurance.
There are times when i sit at my desk and i want to cry because I can't stand being there anymore. I get pains in my head too but only at work, not when i am at home or anywhere else.
What can I do to make it go quicker? Seriously.

I'll assume quiting is not an immediate option. Otherwise you would have probably done that already. So, I would suggest you use any down time you have to work on "your plan". Your plan for getting the job you would most enjoy. The plan will no doubt include financial goals, education goals, and maybe relocation goals.

Then set a time-table for yourself. And maybe some milestones at which point you would reward yourself with something special. Then, everyday concentrate on how well you are doing against your plan.

Before you know it, you will have completed your plan and heading to a new situation.

Best of luck.

You sound like you have symptoms of burn-out. Your job sounds really narrow and repetitious, but I'll bet you're really bright with so much more to give and to learn. It sounds like it's time for you to look for another job.

But if you're a single parent and sole income earner, you may feel stuck because it may not be that easy to just leave your job. A couple of things to think are:
-Why are you working this job and for whom, e.g. youself, your child?
-What would it be like, if you didn't have this job?
-Maybe you can take classes toward a hobby, another career or to move into another part of your company.

Your job also sounds really isolating. If you're feeling this way, others might also feel the same way. Maybe you can take a leadership role in gathering people together to have some fun on the job, e.g. to plan lunch time potlucks, Friday or Monday pizza, after work bowling. Just connecting with others to break out of the isolation helps!

Finally, try to have some fun at home and on the weekend! Something completely different from work!

Good luck!

Well not looking at clocks and putting up "fun" pictures will help in the short term.....

You should ask yourself what you want to do with your life and whether you are suitably qualified to do it. Think about your interests for ideas- but rememeber that you will most likely have to work hard to something that is more interesting and better paid.

If you manage to achieve this- your day will go faster naturally as you will be more absorbed in your job. To me you are looking at your situation from a short run perspective as all these "suggestions" are just quick fixes that won't last. If you really want to change your situation you will.

Keep job searching. Having even the possibility makes the present seem better. You are in a an over abused marketing ploy. I had similar problems selling insurance. I occasionally looked up businesses I found interesting or wanted to call anyway and then asked about insurance. That was refreshing break and was still busy working.

I'm in a similar position. I'm looking for other work, but until I land something, I need to stay where I am.

If you can get out now, do it. It's not worth making yourself so unhappy, if you can avoid it.

Also, I find exercise a great way to vent my frustration. It takes the edge off the bad feelings.

Do you know what you *would* like to be doing instead?

If not, I'd recommend books:
Richard Nelson Bolles - What colour is your parachute
Martha Beck - Finding your own north star

Forget your present job. Find a job that doesn't entail sitting behind a desk. Something that keeps you active all day. The time will pass before you know it. The idea is keep busy & DON'T look at the clock!

I thought I had the answer until reading that you hate your job. That changes everything. I now believe that the answer is to make a job/career change and find something that is more appealing to you. Once there, immerse yourself in it and take on a few extra assignments once in awhile and the time will fly by. It's hard to do though in a job that you don't like.

If you keep yourself occupied with something you like it always takes your mind off of your work and the clock and usualy before you realize it the day is over or you could think of the exciting things in your life that you enjoy! If you drag yourself at work it will make you hate it but concentrate on the good things in your outside life cause if you think about the negative things it will catch up with you before you know it. Good Luck!

Sorry, but it's never going to get better while you're in a job you hate. If you're miserable, start looking for another job now.
