If it were a war for oil, wouldn't we be bringing all that oil over here? It is, in fact, a completely oil-less war. We've gotten no oil out of it. If we had taken that oil - free oil - prices would be at an all-time low.
Also, for those that say it's a war for oil because Bush is an oil baron, the last thing an oil baron would do would be anything that increases supply. That would make the price go down. So, if Bush were an oil baron, the absolute last thing he would want would be a war for oil. Simple supply and demand.
The truly twisted, tinfoil-hat crowd should be claiming that Bush went to war to PREVENT Iraqi oil from getting to the U.S., thus restricting supply. So, maybe it would be a war FROM oil. See, the crazy conspiracists can't even get their conspiracies right.

Oil was one of the primary factors for the Iraq war, although not in the sense most people think of it. The war was not FOR OIL... but was waged to determine what can be used to PAY FOR oil at market.
The oil "belongs" to the people of Iraq (chuckle), but anyone who wants to buy oil, has to pay for it with U.S. dollars. Power goes not to the man with the oil, but to the man with his finger on the spicket. And the U.S. has its finger on the world spicket literally (Basra), and figuratively (the petrodollar).
In late 2000 Saddam re-denominated Iraqi oil into Euros. And that my friends is why Germany and France had a hissy fit about Iraq, while our friends on the Pound Sterling (BP-StandardOil B-Team) managed to see things from a different perspective.

the fact is... I don't know why we are there... it seems so inconsistent with U.S. policy...
Take Iran and N. Korea... basically a brutal dictatorships, that have some links to terrorist funding and are working on or have developed WMD... and it's been going on for years... and we are still talking to them...
But the same thing happens in Iraq and we invade?
They have no real links to the terrorists that attacked us?
oil seems to be as good of a reason as any other?
There does not seem to be a reason that makes sense?

For the umpteenth million time: NO!
If it were, why is oil at record highs instead of lows??????
(And to those claiming Bush is an oil BILLionaire, I ask you to do a little research. His net worth is stated between 9 and 26 million. Hardly a billionaire. J. Kerry, on the other hand, has a net worth of at least $125 million and may be as high as $650 million, thanks to his pickle fortune.)
