Ok get off it now...
I'm looking up links for you. Apparently it can cause early abortion;

If you are taking these products to avoid pregnancy (and abortion), now you know that the makers and promoters of "birth control" products have betrayed you and your children. It has been proven many times that these products do not completely stop ovulation and conception. In fact, depending upon the product you're using, you could be at risk of ending the life of a newly conceived son or daughter every month by birth control's chemical abortions.

If you continued taking your birth control pill because you didn't realize you were pregnant, don't be alarmed. Despite years of this accident happening, there's very little evidence that exposure to the hormones in birth control pills causes birth defects.
Still, the birth control pill is a potent estrogen. Lessons learned from women who took diethylstilbestrol — a synthetic estrogen that was later linked with cancer — to prevent miscarriage in early pregnancy suggest that such exposure should be minimized.
Once you learn that you're pregnant, stop taking the birth control pill.
Ok so here's what I say. Just stop taking the pills, go see your doctor. I'm sure things will be ok as long as you aren't too far along.... Good Luck.

Yes it can harm the baby. I believe it says on the box to not take the pill if you think you may be pregnant. I would suggest going to the Dr and telling them how long you took the pill before knowing you were pregnant and taking an ultra sound asap. Hope the best for you and your baby. God Bless!

people do this all the time, continue their pills without knowing they are pregnant, it will not harm the baby. The doctor doesnt reccommend doing it because the pill contains hormones and why risk it. The incidence of birth defects related to this are very very minimal, just take care of yourself now and relax, stress is not good for the little one.

I was advised by my doctor that as long as I didn't keep taking the pills after I found out about the pregnancy that it wouldn't hurt the baby.

its really bad. I get nervous about that all the time. It can cause crazy birth defects. Deformities and such.
And I hate to bash someone but "Ask a doctor but I don't think its harmful if you didn't know u were pregnant. " Thats just ridiculous. It's like saying "as long as you dont know you have cancer it cant hurt you" How dumb can you get?

Generally, no, birth control pills merely 'fool' your body into thinking it's already preggo. But, you should see an OB/GYN anyway...at least go to a 'free' clinic, if you can't afford anything else.
