The University of Toronto is a world-renowned institution, where you can work with renowned professors and researchers. But it depends on what you want with your degree. Do you want to go on to graduate school (or academic work), or straight to the workforce? If the academic route, go to Toronto. If the workforce route, you may want an education with a more applied focus, and GIT will be suited for your needs.

Other people have already said the most important point. Where are you from and where you want to study. I'm a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering, currently in US (though I'm from Hong Kong). I can only tell you GIT's biomedical engineering program has ranked one of the top 3 in the States. Honestly, I don't know Canada situation. But I agree UT seems to be one of the most famous universities in Canada. So maybe you should consider 1)Where you want to study, 2)What could the BME programs in these two universities offer (e.g. variety of courses), 3)Your career plan (e.g. if you find one offers better research if you're interested in grad school), 4)The name of the univerisity (e.g. the power of alumni and how people look at your degree regardless their knowledge of BME) and 5)where the university locates (e.g. urban, suburban or rural as you can't deny social life is important as well).

I am going to answer your quesiton with a question. That is going to be "Do you want to work in the United States?" and "Did you study H.S in the US?" The reason being is that while most of college your on your own in studying, the people around do affect the way you study. I guess, I think if your from America, you should go to Georgia Tech. I just got my MBA from Georgia State. So my opinion is kind of bias. As far as the "Do you want to work in the US?" goes, My friend attends gatech, and says that it's a great school and is preparing him well for the work force. Chrissy took some of the stuff I was going to say.

Eugene kind of said it. Being that I am from Canada, and graduating from University of Toronto in Civil Engineering, I am going to tell you U of T. But in my graduate year, I spent a semester there for a international studies program, and I was extremely impressed by the professors and Georgia Tech's ability to stay at the forfront of technology. U of T, while having an impressive engineering facility, did appear to have the same up-to-date equiptment.

I went to Canada to study Biology, where I went to U of T. I didn't finish at U of T. Instead I went to Georgia Tech to study Applied Biology. In my opinion, if you like to study in a BA or a Graduate degree and then go to the work force, go to Georgia Tech and take the CO-OP program there. If you like to study and obtain a PH.D or teach, i think you should go to U of T. I didn't finish my degree at U of T because I didn't study alot in my first year. I think if you are able to handle large amount of HW, go to University of Toronto. Both Schools are world known for their research.

Georgie Institute of Technology. It looks like you'll be able to participate in more ongoing research and it looks like a pretty large department. If the general atmosphere of the school is what you want, then I think you should choose this school.
