A lady from work (shes philipino) told me that she takes a spoon full daily and that it helps her clean her body out from the inside to the out. Like complexion etc.

There hasn't been any definitive evidence from studies stating that Coconut Oil is beneficial for ones health. Coconut oil is great for the skin and hair when applied topically as it has natural moisturizing qualities. However, coconut oil as a diet supplement is mostly part of a fad nowadays. Coconut oil is better than some of the fats that are out there such as the very unhealthy synthetic trans fats and the natural but debatably beneficial rapeseed derived oils (like Canola). But keep in mind that coconut oil is MOSTLY a saturated fat. Saturated fats won't do much for for your heart, cholesterol level, and liver.

Olive oil on the other hand has been proven again and again (by many scientific studies) to be the best oil you can consume for your health. It is a mono-saturated oil. It is beneficial for the heart, and it controls bad cholesterol. It also has antioxidant qualities which help your body fight damage from cell oxidation . You would need to consume more than 1 tablespoon a day of olive oil to reap its benefits though.

If you look at the "10 Healthiest Foods" lists on health magazines, books and health organizations, olive oil is almost always present on these lists but coconut oil is not.

Coconut oil is rich in medium chain triglycerides, which are converted in the liver into energy rapidly, stimulating the metabolism, as well as the production of thyroxine, a metabolism regulating thyroid hormone. It has also been shown effective at literally shearing off the outer protein layer of viruses, rendering them inactive. It is high in caprylic acid, an antifungal substance. It also supports the good bacteria in our gut, helping to undo some of the damage done by antibiotics. It is also very good to cook with. Unlike polyunsaturated fats like corn and soy, it will not go rancid or oxidize when heated.
