Any mechanical problems or reasons not to buy a Ducati?

They ARE expensive to maintain, repair or modify. But.... they are soooo damn sexy. I love my Ducati and, yes it is uncomfortable on long hauls, but what "true' sport bike isn't. My girlfriend says that her *** starts to feel "square" after a few hours on the back. I've asked her if she'd rather take our Harley, and everytime she comes back with a "NO!" The Duc is sooo much faster, handles better and she'd rather be seen on it anyday.

If you call having the coolest motorcycle on the planet an "issue," yeah.
Ducatis rule. They may not be the most comfortable on long hauls, but heck, they're so fast you get there before you left anyway. Look sexy standing still. Sound like tigersex. Man they are pure Italian iron.
Don't hold their value very well in the US, but they are great bikes.

Great bike, but the clutch went out in under 1000 miles. Kind of expensive maintenance wise, but well worth it.

I'll ditto the "uncomfortable seat" comment plus if you're on the short side, you'll have a hard time getting both feet down when you need to.
