If Bollywood films became more popular worldwide than Hollywood films, how would that be "a defeat against cultural imperialism"? I'm sure a lot of people, Pakistanis for example, would see it as just exchanging one cultural imperative for another.

Defeat? Bollywood has outproduced Hollywood for years, this is nothing new nor does it signal a lessening of Hollywood's impact. It's interesting that you may think this especially considering that due to the influence of today's Indian youth, Bollywood is now producing more films in the "western format" without the song and dance that has been its trademark for years. The movie industry is growing worldwide (look at the surging popularity of Korean films) and this competition is healthy for Hollywood, Bollywood and the worldwide film industry.

I totally disagree, since Bollywood output is mainly viewed (and ergo cared about) by Southeast Asians. Where I live (Mexico) Bollywood movies are practically nonexistent. In Europe, B. productions rock, but among SE Asians. So, the answer is NO, Hollywood rules as ever.

Bollywood has consistently out-produced Hollywood. But they have never and will never outproduce Hollywood.

Even if Zimbabwe went home and not played the match and sent in their B grade team , India would definitely find a way to lose the match and restore their credibility and status as the underdogs
