If your computer was flying right along until you started downloading, then it could well be the download that's taking up lots of bandwith and slowing your computer down. That was the new factor in the picture, so the slow down may well be associated with the download process. See if it returns to normal after the download.
Also, the size of your download may slow it down if your computer's storage capacity is getting pretty full.
Further, depending on where you're downloading from, some companies also bundle in spyware, etc. that can also slow your computer down after your download. You might want to scan for such programs and decide if you want to delete them.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

I think your problem is that you're using bit torrent to transfer the file. Not all people who use bit torrent realize that it's a P2P program (this got me in trouble at college as I didn't realize I was sharing Madden 2004...opps). When using bit torrent, the files you download are automatically shared, meaning anyone else attempting to download the file might be directed to your computer for the download. In this case, you're in the midst of what's known as a "swarm", a group of users that trades file fragments until the downloads are complete.
Simply uploading to one other computer would hardly be noticable on your system, as the bulk of the work is done over the net, not on your computer. However, as the amount of upload requests increase, your computer must spend more time processing requests and sending acknowledgements, meaning a noticeable lag will eventually result. The fact that it's such a big file could cause a major change in your computer's processing power since it takes so long to download.
Bit torrent can also make you very vulnerable to malicious attacks, as your IP address is available to anyone in the swarm. Be sure that you have a good firewall like ZoneAlarm or Kerio (or, of course a hardware firewall) to ensure that you aren't on the end of an installed trojan or other malware.
Hope this advice helps.

It doesn't really have to affect your computer, it may slow it down if your hard drive has little space remaining and if your computer Physical Memory is little- live for example 512 MB. So, yes it could affect your computer in a way of slowing it doen, but if you have enough hard drive space and physical memory just don't worry about it. This problem has nothing to do with the year of the PC. It has to do with what's inside the PC - (hard drive space & memory).

The overall speed of the computer should NOT be affected. HOWEVER, the speed of the internet connection COULD be affected, which, in turn may make some programs that use the internet seem much slower. Blaming the computer for this is not appropriate.

in case you recommend does having a sport put in damage your pc's overall performance, the answer isn't any. that is going to truly deplete confusing stress area for the put in archives. in case you recommend even as the game is operating, will a even as down different purposes, the answer is definite, and it varies depending upon how memory/processor huge the game is. in case you're taking area in 1/2-life 2 or another new-age shooter with tremendous snap shots, this can particularly cripple your gadget if doing different issues simulatenously (like downloading songs, etc)
