Not sure of your definition of mild performance, but if you want low end power with some economy I would recommend a "RV" type cam. any of the name brands make good cams. also you might try their web sites and ask the cam mfg. for a recommendation,based on your expectations.

you will be limited by the factory programing. Crane cams offers a few cams that are computer friendly. Make sure you upgrade the exhaust system to take advantage of increased air flow.

Go with a crane and buy a gear drive set to eliminate your timing chain. The sets are cheap for a 350 chevy and you'll have it all open anyway.
