Well before he got hurt Albert Pujols was the best player this season. He was on pace to break the single season home run record. Plus he also had a pretty good batting average.

Now I would go with Joe Mauer or Travis Hafner. Both are currently having a great year. Plus Joe Mauer plays a very difficult position and is still producing very good numbers in spite of the toll that being a catcher takes on a player.

Joe Mauer stats:
.378 BA, 5 HR, 31 RBI, 37 runs, 6 SB

Travis Hafner stats:
.300 BA, 19 HR, 57 RBI, 57 Runs

Well Albert Pujols was the best player this year and I think he will come back strong when he gets better, but as for the best player right now I think I would have to say Alfonso Soriano is playing the best right now along with Joe Mauer. We also shouldn't forget some of the pitchers either this year liek Kenny Rogers and Tom Glavine.

Albert Pujos was putting up huge #'s before he got hurt. Since he was hurt St. Louis has increased their lead in the division and now have a five game lead. The Cubs were 14-9 (5 games above 500) before Derek Lee was injured and now they are 27-43 (16 games under 500) That said I think that Albert is still the best player this year but D Lee is the most important player to his team.

Albert Pujols. He's been out a few weeks and still leads the Majors in Homers (tied) and second in RBI. That's what you call having a great season.

Albert Pujols even now when he is hurt, he is still cheering on the Cards and probably giving tips to his teammates. Pujols all the way

Until he got hurt, Albert Pujols. Not only was he hitting for power, he was helping his team win almost every night.
