With all the crap that dell and gateway now bundle with their systems including the computer killer AOL, I would build it yourself. AMD will give you more bang for your buck!

Depends what you are doing. IF you are a hardcore, and I mean, HARDCORE gamer, then build your own. Otherwise, I would recomend Dell.
I built my own computer, and just a warning, it can become a major pain in the butt. I am not saying it always is, as I know some who have perfectly fine home made computers, but just as an example, my homemade PC showed symptoms of the processor overheating, only to find out that one of the hard drives had failed. That took MANY hours of work to figure out.
If you are just a casual computer user, who doesn't need the best of the best to keep up with the rest, I would get a Dell.
But if you are a gamer looking to get an advantage over your opponents, go ahead, build your own.
Now Intel or AMD... I can't really tell you off of the top of my head. I hear AMD is leading in the Computer Game market, but I do believe Intel is a more compatable processor company. I built my computer on the first wave of AMD Athlon 64+ processors and it was nearly impossible finding compatable components. Do your research, and I'm sure both are fine, but if I ever build a computer again, I am going with Intel just for the more compatability.
But if you are buying, it really just depends on the configurations.

Never ever think about purchasing a Gateway. It's really that bad. I used to build my own computer, but it always crashes or at least something never goes right. I used AMD but I found that it's always noisy. Don't know about new technologies these days... they may have just improved. Finally, I started purchasing Dell computer after another. Right now I have 3 Intel Dell for every household including me, and a Dell laptop as well. Within the past 3 years... never had a single problem, yet.

Go with the Gateway. You will get more for your money. Dell makes good machines but there are too many components that are "Dell only" which will end up costing you even more in the long run. Building your own system will ultimitely cost you more money and you will likely have lots of compatibility issues. That being said, I would actually recommend taking a look at HP computers. You'll get a quality machine and you will definitely get the most for your money.

depends on what kind of pc u want. if u want a low end pc for everyday stuff, then go with a dell. they have the best prices for the specs. plus their customer service is great. HP is great too but expect the prices to be a little higher.
if want a good decent desktop, then definitly build ur own. I would go with AMD.

1st of all i would build my own, but if you are going to buy a prebuilt, I would go with Dell only bc they offer the 4 GPU set up, but then you can't get an AMD chip. But if i was going to buy a prebuilt i would place the 4 GPU over the AMD/intle war. and besided gateway are pieces of crap.

i just bought my new dell notebook and it was the best thing i did. i called all these other companies and nothing came close to what dell offered. if you have to buy any type of computer buy a dell it is the best choice. also go with an intel it is much better.

each and every producer has its lemons. i think of its maximum suitable to attend till a particular form which you're watching has been out for a minimum of 6 months, so as which you will examine comments. as an occasion, you're watching a Toshiba satellite tv for pc a505-s6980, google "Toshiba satellite tv for pc a505-s6980 problems" and spot what comes up. I even have been interior the enterprise for an truly long term and that i will promise you no form is extra clever than the different.

AMD all the way. Dont be fooled by Intel's higher gigahertz numbers. My 2.4 Ghz AMD will outperform a 3 Ghz Intel

Get a Dell, when they have a sale. They send sales catalogs. Or buy a Dell at EBAY or Yahoo Auctions. My mother has a Dell. It came from Yahoo Auctions, for $300. Of course, I had to have an operating system installed.
