I am 14 and really bored over summer. Does any one know of a place I might be able to get a job in Battle Ground, WA? Something that possibly has to do with cooking or making coffee or something?

Due to the child labor laws, I don't believe you can work until you are 16 in any coffee houses, restaurants, etc..

However, take a course in CPR and then do some babysitting. If that doesn't interest you, how about mowing lawns, cleaning houses or washing cars.

Perhaps there is a program in your city where you can volunteer for the elderly and do some cooking. I know that many food shelters need volunteers and maybe you would be able to cook and make coffee there.

Be patient if you're not able to work legally until the age of 16. It will go by quickly. I think it's wonderful that you have such a great desire to work!! With your fabulous attitude, I suspect you will do well in life.

Enjoy your summer!!

P.S. I looked up the the Washington state.gov site and found some information for you concerning the age a worker must be. Click on the source below and I believe it will answer most of your questions. It looks to me like you can work in some places with restrictions if you are 14.

I'm not sure if you can get a job in a restaurant at 14...depends on the legal working age there in your state.

However, you can maybe get another job, like babysitting, walking dogs, house sitting, lawn work, a paper route, odd jobs.

Your school should know what the work laws are in your state...if there's a secretary there you can call her and ask.

Try a country club, sometimes they have jobs for kids at their snack bars, that sort of thing (I worked at one when I was 13).
