6. Apply a base coat. Allow it to dry.

7. Apply polish. Clean any stray marks with a cotton swab dipped in polish remover.

8. Add a second coat for deeper color.

9. Finish the manicure with a top coat of clear polish.

Tips:
Put your hands in a basin or sink full of ice-cold water if you need your nails to dry in a hurry.

Pedicure

1. Remove any old nail polish thoroughly.

2. Soak your feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes. Add Epsom salts or any other commercial foot soak.

3. Clip your toenails straight across using a toenail clipper or scissors. Clipping straight across will help prevent ingrown toenails.

4. File the toenails to smooth any rough edges.

5. Push back your cuticles. Use a cuticle moisturizer if they do not push back easily after soaking.

6. Massage your feet with a moisturizing lotion. Use an exfoliating lotion if the skin is dry and/or roughened. Use a loofah or pumice stone on roughened areas.

7. Separate your toes. Put cotton between your toes, or use a ready-made device for pedicures.

8. Apply a base coat and give it time to dry.

9. Apply polish, cleaning up any stray marks with a cotton swab dipped in polish remover. Add a second coat for deeper color.

10. Complete the pedicure with a top coat of clear polish.

Tips:
Leave your shoes off for at least an hour or two to allow the polish to thoroughly dry.

Warnings:
Avoid cutting your cuticles with scissors or nail clippers.

first you will want to remove any old polish with polish remover. make sure it contains acetone, because it will be a lot easier to remove the polish. (I like Cutex polish remover.) Clip toenails and fingernails if they need it. make sure you clip straight across, and never the edges. leave the edges alone, and just file them into a rounded pattern. ( file your fingernails and toenails using a single motion. do not "saw" back and forth. it makes your nails ragged. )then apply a good cuticle oil to hands. for hands, you will want to apply a clear base coat to fingernails. it keeps them from turning yellow if you used colored polish. I would apply moisturizing hand cream last. for your feet, after filing is done, soak them in soapy water for about 5 minutes. use warm water just because it feels really relaxing. use a pumice stone, or a foot scubber after removing feet from water. be very gentle. you don't want to cause blisters. then, dry your feet . Polish toenails if you want to. I would let the polish dry, and then apply Vaseline or a really moisturizing foot lotion, then cover with socks. it keeps the skin really soft. its a lot of work but its really worth it, and its a lot cheaper than going to a salon.

Well I am a makeup artist and style consultant and that is the first thing make sure hands and feet are perfect, and smooth. I tell my clients that also. I dont do their toes or finger, this is my own do-at-home spa:

Here are some steps to follow:

MANICURE:

You don't have to journey to the local nail place to pamper your hands. Do it yourself at home.

Steps:

1. Remove old nail polish thoroughly.

2. Soak hands in warm water for 10 or 15 minutes. Dry hands.

3. File nails in one direction only. Avoid using a seesaw motion.

4. Push back cuticles. Use a cuticle moisturizer if they do not push back easily after soaking.

5. Massage your hands. Use a moisturizing lotion. Use an exfoliating lotion if your skin is dry and/or roughened.

Althought we dont always think about it, applying a base coat is very important. Without a base, some colors will dicolor the nails. Deep reds do this the worst of all!

Do not shape your nails after soaking them. It can cause long-term damage.

Warnings:

Avoid cutting your cuticles with scissors or nail clippers.

PEDICURE:

You don't need to rush off to a salon before donning those open-toed shoes. Get your feet in tip-top shape at home.

Steps:

I soak my feet in a plastic container and I add a jar full of marbles to the warm water. It feels wonderful to roll your feet over the marbles as they soak.

After showering automatically use any sensitive skin enhancer lotion esp (Dove and Olay) products between your toes, heals, and especially your ankles. Using sensitive face lotion on your feet is recommended best, it soothes skin times more then regular body lotion. Triggers pores to define natural skin tone and texture. Toes and feet stand out beautifully!

Hope that helps.

Girl, the best part of a manicure/pedicure is being pampered...let somebody else do that for you. I love the hand massage part of it all!
