Unfortunately ants are everywhere. I live in the south and ants are a big problem here. The only way I've found to control these pest is to continually spread fire ant killer around and in the mulch. I will be reading other answers to this question. Good Luck!

It attracts earwigs, centipedes, and millipedes. This is because these sorts of insects prefer dark, cool, damp, decomposing organic materials like mulch and bark.

You could put a pesticide granules in with the mulch or bark.

It doesn't really attract them but it does give them a place to hide and eat. I was told that your mulch should be laid at least 6 inches from your house.
