I think so, since in some videos they have brought back dead musicians to sing with present day musicians. I've also seen commercials with people who are dead and their mouths have been computerized to say different things.

They already have, many times. The new Superman Film has Marlon Brando's character, Zor El do a few lines. A previous answerer mentioned those commercail ads where past performers work with contemporary artists.

I think your question really asks whether a long dead actor can be recreated from scratch using computer technology. In my opinion, they are very close. Each year, they manage to make more realistic human characters. If you can look closely, you can see that the eextures and movements are not quite there yet. Cartoon characters, monsters, etc. look just fine, but the closeups don't work yet. Check out the latest X Men film. The CGI characters are only shown breifly in closeup and are used mostly in long shots.

Each year, getting better and better. I believe it will eventually happen.

The "villain" in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was a young Laurence Olivier who died in 1989. By using old movie footage they were able to digitally create a "performance" from him. That was probably the best example of what technology has allowed, but I agree with the previous answer that it still doesn't come close to looking like a real live performance

I think it's been tried. But perhaps it becomes an issue of respect for the dead. Or the family's object.
A lot of fans wouldn't be too impressed if Clark Gable was in something like 'The Spy Who Shagged Me'.
Something similar was done in the Steve Martin movie 'Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid'. Although a very funny film, used Hollywood legends as the butt of jokes.
But who knows, in the future we might see 'The Duke' big John Wayne riding the range again?

Yeah, I guess with all the new techniques it could be possible to "resuscitate" a dead movie start. Whom would I like to see on the big screen again? Maybe Chaplin.
