First, I would like to correct both "olsbigsis" and "Che-Che". First of all, most Germans are neither ignorant nor arrogant (this in itself proves that you know very little about the nation and it's people, therefore proving, in turn, that YOU are the one who is ignorant). Now, about the war (I am assuming WW II). Do not think that every German in the country agreed with what was happening. However, if you have never heard Hitler speak in person, you cannot understand the effect he had on the Germans. If you did not know, he wrote a book about how the Jews would cause an economic collapse in Germany, and not long after, the economy did collapse. This persuaded a great deal of people. Now, on to the complaint of vacations. Just because you did not have a good time in Germany does not mean that they are bad people, or that they stink (I highly doubt you met every German person; that would not be easy to do...). Now, about the original question. In my experience, many people do believe that all Germans are Nazis (which they are not, I am living testimony of that), and that this means there will be another Nazi dictator who will start another conquest. I highly doubt this will happen, and I believe that the amount of hate towards the German people will decline after survivors of the WW II era have passed on (I am not promoting death, you can be sure of that, as I am necrophobic). One last thing about the complaints I addressed: Albert Einstein once said, "Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen." These people must have a great deal of common sense then...

Most people nothing.

The ones that do.. I think it's generally from the group mentality that sees other people making jokes about it, and wants to fit in by playing along.

I don't think that even those people would really hold anything against someone personally. However, the 'banter' of 'them and us' seems to get taken a bit too far by some people *coughfootballfanscough*.

Obviously there are a few genuine racists too, but I don't think they have enough energy to really hate most foreigners, after they're done working themselves into a frenzy over religion, immigration and ethnicity.

They were believed to be the start of World War Two, due to Hitler, a dictator being in charge. Obviously, millions were killed, not to mention the casualties. It took decades for the world to get rebuilt, and many countries went into economic depression.

They had £6 billion to pay in reparations and they got this reduced many times, with loans from the USA.

They appear to be a little bit arrogant and tend to have a superior attitude.

However, Positive experiences of the individual germans might smoothen the attitude.

People equate Nazism with Germany, so therefore they believe that all Germans are Nazis. Faulty logic, but that is how prejudice is born.
